3 Andanéya Nér túvë Tavaron i tauressë ar mára virdassë ola málo ó hye.               A long time ago a Man met a Satyr in the forest and succeeded in making friends with him.
I attië ron olanë arya menendilu, ar marnë uo i Nerwa cöassë.               The two soon became the best of comrades, living together in the Man's hut.
Mal uma ringa hrívë undómessë, lan páteáneltë mar, i Tavaron cennë i Nér þusta leperyannar.                   But one cold winter evening, as they were walking homeward, the Satyr saw the Man blow on his fingers.
4 “Maro cáralyë ta?” maquentë i Tavaron.        "Why do you do that?" asked the Satyr.
5 “Laucatiën mányat,” i Nér hanquentë.        "To warm my hands," the Man replied.
6 Yá ananyettë már i Nér maxanë tolpo atta mulesseo.           When they reached home the Man prepared two bowls of porridge.
Sinu sestanes arilaucat i paluhtassë, ar i málot harunë alassessë na alarya i mat.                 These he placed steaming hot on the table, and the comrades sat down very cheerfully to enjoy the meal.
Mal laca aitanë i Tavaron, í Nér yesentë þusta mulesseo tolporyanna.              But much to the Satyr's surprise, the Man began to blow into his bowl of porridge.
7 “Maro carilyë ta?” maquentes.      "Why do you do that?" he asked.
8 “Ringatiën mulessenya,” hanquentë i Nér.        "To cool my porridge," replied the Man.
9 I Tavaron campë lintië taluryassë ar mennë i fennanna.           The Satyr sprang hurriedly to his feet and made for the door.
10 “Namárië,” eques, “Faren ecéniën.        "Goodby," he said, "I've seen enough.
Mon ye þusta lauca ar ringa imba föanen ui ecë ná málo onyë!”              A fellow that blows hot and cold in the same breath cannot be friends with me!"

The translation uses Q. "tavaron" (male dryad; woor spirit) as the closest equivalent to Satyr.
