Aesop 021: The Frog & the Mouse

Motto: Those who seek to harm others often come to harm themselves through their own deceit.
(Note: This seems like a mistaken copy of the motto for the next fable "The Wolf in Sheep's Clothing". The illustration does not quite seem to match either.)

【3】 Vinya Nyarrincë, ceþila veryandë, nóranë pelas i ráva lúno yassë Quácë marnë.
► A young Mouse in search of adventure was running along the bank of a pond where lived a Frog.
¶ Yá i Quácë cennë i Nyarrincë, luntes i rávanna ar quanquë:
► When the Frog saw the Mouse, he swam to the bank and croaked:
【4】 “Ma cecennuvalyen? Ecë nin vesta lyen mára lúmë qui carilyë.”
► "Won't you pay me a visit? I can promise you a good time if you do."
【5】 I Nyarrincë nánes aþa-siuta, pan nánes añcaira, ceniën Ambar ar ilqua sassë.
► The Mouse did not need much coaxing, for he was very anxious to see the world and everything in it.
¶ Mal anahtai nicë polles lutë, únes verya mitta lúnenna ú uma áþeo.
► But though he could swim a little, he did not dare risk going into the pond without some help.
【6】 I Quácë haranyë panwë.
► The Frog had a plan.
¶ Nuntes i Nyarrincio telco ó inseo telco norna liscenen.
► He tied the Mouse's leg to his own with a tough reed.
¶ Tá campes mina i lún, lucila auca menendilya óssë.
► Then into the pond he jumped, dragging his foolish companion with him.
